Electronic Verification Interface for Passport Applications
The Thrissur City Police have developed a software which makes the passport application verification process transparent and less time consuming. Also the software, christened as Electronic Verification Interface for Passport Applications (eViP) enables the applicants to track the status of police verification process online
The laborious process of data entry into 30 various registers used to take long time, which was one reason for the delays in the completion of the verification process. Now with the digitization it is possible to send back the applications instantly through e-mail as soon as the verification is complete, he said.The software also has provisions for sending out SMS to the applicants as well as to the police department officials. The applicant will be informed when the police official was likely to visit their homes for verification, through SMS.
The applicants can locate the status of their application by visiting the website http://evip.keralapolice.gov.in/ and entering the website http://evip.keralapolice.gov.in/ by clicking the link 'Passport verification status'. They have to then type the 15-digit file number given to them from the passport office when they submitted the application.
The police officials will also be given SMS messages so that they can monitor the progress of verification process of each application. The software has also a provision for recording the feedback of the applicants which will give them an opportunity to appreciate or complain about the quality of services they had received from the police official. The DPC can personally monitor the complaints personally and software has a provision to give responses in 24 hours.
Sreerag, Fisto, and Minto P Francis are the other three members of the police team which developed the software. According to them the software was developed using internal resources and did not entail any investments. The android version is also available in the website for quick status checking.
