  • BRIEF HISTORY OF THRISSUR SUB DIVISION

 

          Thrissur Sub Division was formed in the year 1954.  Earlier Thrissur Sub Division was part of Cochin State and under the control of Commissioner of Police, Kochin City.  The new building bearing No. TC/10/1457/III (Survey No. 1221/I of Thrissur village) for Sub Division Office, Thrissur was inaugurated by Sri. M.N. Krishnamoorthy IPS, Inspector General of Police, North Zone, Kozhikode on 8.3.2006. Before the inauguration of the new building, this office was functioning in the Control Room building. As per the Government Order GO (MS) 32/2011 Home dated 5.2.2011 (D.O. No. 330/2011/R) Thrissur Police district was divided as Thrissur City and Thrissur Rural. As per the bifurcation Anthikad and Viyyur Police stations departed from West Circle and integrated with Cherpu and Peramangalam Circles respectively. Nedupuzha PS which was under Cherpu Circle integrated with Thrissur West Circle. Pudukad Circle which was under Thrissur Sub Division is now under Thrisur Rural.

          The Thrissur Sub Division is having 3 circles – Thrissur East, Thrissur West and Ollur and 7 Police Station and Control Room.   Thrissur Sub Division comprises of Thrissur Taluk and part of Mukundapuram Taluk.  The Thrissur Sub Division consists of 39  villages.  Circle wise details are given below:-

Thrissur Sub Division office is functioning in a newly constructed building.  The farthest police station of the Sub Division is Peechi Police Station within Ollur Circle which is 25 KMs East from the Headquarters of the Sub Division. The Sub Division consists of two Taluks – Thrissur  Taluk and Mukundapuram Taluk.  The Sub Division shares common boundary with Alathur Sub Division of Palakkad District, Chalakudy, Irinjalakuda, Kunnamkulam and Guruvayur Sub Division in Thrissur District.

 

 There is a big dam situated at Peechi.  NH.47 is passing through this Sub Division. One Highway Police Kilo 21 based at Mannuthy PS is operating under the supervision of this Sub Division officer. Important institutions like Kerala Agricultural University, Govt. Law College etc are also situated within the jurisdiction of Thrissur Sub Division.
